Plamegate continues

Sorry that this post is not very timely, considering this news came out July 6th, but I was moving and have not had a good internet connection in a while.

As you know, Plamegate is the scandal that Valerie Plame, an active CIA agent working in the field, was “outed” eight days after her husband criticised the administration for twisting intelligence to make a case for war.

Well on July 6th, the UK Guardian reported that Bush has admitted to authorizing Uncle Dick to release classified information “both to defend his administration and to discredit Mr Wilson.” Now of course, instead of attacking Wilson’s claims directly (because they were true) Cheney gives Plame’s CIA status to Rove and Libby, and it magically appears in the media.

This is bad enough in and of itself, but there’s more. The White House, through it’s chief spokesman Scott McClellan insisted in 2003 that there was absolutely no reason to believe that the White House had anything to do with the leak. He went even further to say, “[Bush has] made it very clear to people in his administration that he expects them to adhere to the highest standards of conduct. If anyone in this administration was involved in it, they would no longer be in this administration.”

If that weren’t strong enough, when later asked by a reporter if a White House official would lose their job if they were found to have something to do with this. His response was simply, “at a minimum”.

So there you have it. The White House has promised to sack anyone who was involved with the release of classified information in an attempt to discredit Joe Wilson.

Mr. President, I await your resignation, or at least the firing of Uncle Dick.

Underlying the whole scheme of civilization is the confidence men have in each other, confidence in their integrity, confidence in their honesty, confidence in their future.

I’ve told you before and I’ll repeat here: check your facts because they’re wrong–starting with Joe Wilson’s discredited claims. Wilson was exaggerating (in the most charitable reading of his statements). And since the media didn’t feel like detailing his ties to a faction of the CIA that is working hard to embarrass the administration (let alone his very public ties to the Democrats), that information needed to come out. I can’t wait for the circus that’ll come out if he decides to pursue his defamation suit.

I’d like your sources there. You can’t just make a statement like that without backing it up. My sources are right in the post. How was Wilson exaggerating by saying that the president’s info in his state of the union address was wrong, and KNOWN to be wrong? And which faction of the CIA are you talking about. I can’t find any info on it. Please give me a source.

And if it needed to be done, why did the president try so hard to deny doing it instead of explaining his rational reasons for doing what he did. McClellan’s comments are fairly indicative o a coverup.

I, too, cannot wait for the circus to come.
